As I push to open the doors to my tattoo studio & gallery space, my goal is to spread the spirit of kawaii through art. Feel free to read more about that HERE! <3
In an effort to help this idea along, I decided to enter the Mix-it-Up Kawaii contest, with Kawaii International. I chose to work hard at this contest because mix-it-up fashion is a style that I do naturally. It’s fun and it’s me!
The shoot was done by my #supportLIPS team member, sister, friend, business partner and keeper of my tattoo portfolio, Nikkia Redd.
Please enjoy ~
Meet the Photographer
My sister, long time friend, business acquaintance & photographer extraordinaire, Nikkia Redd, photographed me for the contest.
She has recently opened her doors to her own studio and loves to be challenged creatively, behind the camera. Super kawaii in her own way, she was super excited to join me in this project … and I don’t think it would have been “my personality” any other way <3
Check out Nikkia Redd Photography any and everywhere you can. Support a positive and creative (might I add, black owned) business <3
My Look Was a Group Effort!
I was nervous (I become far more aware of my goofy self in front of a lens) and wanted as many friends with me as possible. My base look had a lot of input from stylist/ fashionista, Tola -bka- PainfullyKawaii. She made it SUPER CLEAR that choosing my accessories would bring everything together. Neither of us wanted me to try too hard, but rather pull together a look that is very much me.
That said, when I chose my accessories, I chose by “happy moments”- some of my favourite moments with some of my favorite people, mostly. Everything has a story and is related to a friend or a kind moment in some way, even the smallest items.
・My bag is from my first trip to Japan
・My Hello Kitty TUK creepers are a gift from Tola (when we were both in a sad place with everything else in the world, but not each other)
・Jewelry is by my friend Anngy, creator of ENJI (quirky kawaii fashion) → follow her! Facebook｜IG
*we finally got to meet during my last visit & had such a great time on our Harajuku playdate with Kaila-chan!*
・bag charms are from a few loving experiences, mostly with friends in Japan.
Photo Shoot Flicks
Here’s more from the shoot in its entirety. There were some really special moments. Like that I’d updated my Facebook status to say that my dream place for a kawaii photo shoot is Chinatown’s ItSugar. Well, I walked in and the owner recognized me *eek!* After a chat, she welcomed us to hang out and shoot with open arms. (Thank you so much to the ItSugar Chinatown staff*muah!)
