Imani K. Brown is an international tattoo artist and an illustrator native to Washington, DC.
In her over 10 years of working in the industry Imani has taken time to become a well-rounded tattoo artist, proficient in a number of fine line styles, including Japanese-inspired and lacework for melanin skin.
Now she is in charge of her dream creative studio and kawaii culture hub, Little INKPLAY Shop, devoted to put to good use her achievements by encouraging other urban youth, like herself, to diligently follow their creative dreams and passions.
“… Fine (tattoo) art should be the standard, not the exception”
Paint everyday BRIGHT!”
To reach these goals, Imani and business partner, Terra V. Cooke have co-founded DC’s local kawaii community, DC KawaiiStyle as well as a youth outreach program: “Kawaii in da Hood”.
At this intersection in her career, Imani’s goal is to show the world the power of tattoo artistry as a visual art and form of healing. Welcoming all styles but specializing in Japanese inspired and fine-line (detailed) work for every type of skin. Her private studio is known as Little INKPLAY Shop (小ちゃなインクプレ店).
Aside from tattooing, Imani is also exploring the philosophy of kawaii and “Kawaii empowerment”. To explore together and strengthen the kawaii community, Little INKPLAY Shop (小ちゃな インクプレ店) will have open doors, welcoming others to meet-up and explore their artistic voice, creativity, and self-love.
What is Little INKPLAY Shop?
An empowering creative atelier and Kawaii* Culture hub.
Inspired by values of the Kawaii and Japanese Culture “LIPS” is a place that seeks to encourage body positive awareness, creativity, and help grow Washington’s DC’s kawaii culture, through art.
People will be able to explore their artistic voice and creativity while getting to know fellow community members, new friends and self-body love.
Mission Statement: “Everyone has the opportunity to make a better life, but not everyone knows how to. For those who happen to know, help those who don’t.”
kawaii: “lovable”, “cute”, or “adorable” is the quality of cuteness in the context of Japanese culture. It has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance, behavior, and mannerisms. – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawaii
